After having based its development over the past 20 years on two flagship products, refrigerated containers and tent air conditioners, Zhendre gradually starts expanding its offer. In addition to its traditional range of refrigerated containers, the company offers integrated container solutions as well as specific air conditioners designed and manufactured according to its customers’ specifications. This new offer is in line with its strategic plan largely devoted to innovation.

Zhendre has given itself the means to achieve its ambition, namely to better and more fully meet the expectations of its customers who often operate in Extreme Conditions. This is the very meaning of “Solutions to Extreme Conditions”.

Armée de terre
1991

After the Gulf War in 1991, the French Army understood the necessity of cooling its tents housing personnel when operating in zones where the outdoor temperature can reach more than 55°C.

By combining its own experience with COOLING and AIR CONDITIONING in EXTREME CONDITIONS with that of specialists in this field within the French Army and Air Force, ZHENDRE has created a wide range of tent air conditioners in which today are used by, in addition to the French Army, the European Corps, NATO Command and some 15 foreign armies.

“Shelter” air conditioners complement this range of ZHENDRE military air conditioners, with THALES being the main purchaser for this type of unit.

The UNITED NATIONS, starting in 1985 with UNIFIL in Lebanon, too adopted ZHENDRE refrigerated containers to supply their Peacekeeping Missions. Since then, many UN Missions have used ZHENDRE refrigerated containers.

ZHENDRE moves to Villenave d’Ornon

Starting in 1960, all while continuing to supply oil & gas camps, mainly in the south of Algeria, ZHENDRE began providing refrigerated containers to the FRENCH ARMY.

These containers were deployed on sites in a variety of sites in Chad, the Central African Republic, Mauritania, Senegal, Gabon, Ivory Coast, and Djibouti, among others.

At the same time it was strengthening its presence in industrial refrigeration, the company entered a new field of activity, air conditioning, which it develops under its own brand, ZENITHAIR.

This activity initially began on foreign markets, mainly tropical countries with a demanding clientèle (oil companies, builders of base camps, construction companies, etc.)

In 1960, the ZHENDRE company moves to Villenave d’Ornon near Bordeaux on a 33,000 sq.m plot of land.

A third-generation family company, transformed into a Public Limited Company in 1995, ZHENDRE is pursuing its strategy of controlled growth, which gives it a leading international position in its sector of activity, while maintaining the flexibility and responsiveness of an SME with around 100 employees.

Mission Berliet Tenere
1959

The company undergoes a decisive experience. As part of oil & gas exploration campaigns in the Algerian desert, ZHENDRE participates in the expedition from Algeria to Chad, the famous “Berliet-Ténéré” mission.

The experience gained from the sub-Saharan epic will later provide the basis for developing its activities in refrigeration in extreme conditions.

1955

The ZHENDRE company has its origins in the family business founded in the aftermath of the Second World War by Robert, Paul and Louis Zhendre, in respective order, grandfather, uncle and father of the current chairman Alexandre Zhendre.

It was thus that, in 1950, the first autonomous refrigerated container was designed.

In 1955, Louis Zhendre decides to create his own company, under the name ACFT Louis Zhendre. This acronym, for “Ateliers de Construction Frigorifiques Tropicales” (Tropical Refrigeration Construction Workshops), thus marks the company’s specialisation in refrigeration equipment for hot countries and its international vocation from the outset.

In the late 1950s, the company undergoes a decisive experience.
