Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport has seen an increase in the number of passengers carried since the beginning of 2018 and aims to offer its passengers ever more comfort. We therefore proposed to air-condition the boarding bridges to the aircraft, in which the temperature could reach up to +37°C.


The airport services wanted an air conditioning solution that would adapt to the current infrastructure. The air conditioning work on the 4 walkways had to be carried out as quickly as possible since the work was not to exceed 1 week per walkway. To improve the service offered to customers, the airport wanted an indoor temperature of up to +22°C. The boarding bridges are 36 m long and retractable, so they are in constant movement. Finally, the safety and security restrictions at an airport site are very important and strict.


After a design study, Zhendre proposed two air conditioners per passenger boarding bridge. Our design office determined that the air conditioners in the Zenithair range best corresponded to the customer’s needs in terms of flow rate and cooling capacity. We engineered and designed a mechanically welded chair to install the air conditioner weighing more than 600 kg on the uprights of the footbridge. The high flow rate required in addition to the narrow cross-section of the existing ducts led us to propose innovative solutions to meet the customer’s needs.

Our intervention team obtained all the necessary certifications and authorisations to operate in airside areas of the airport. This team spent 4 weeks on site installing, connecting and testing the air conditioners, which have been working perfectly since.
